Great TV overall, beware of AirPlay, WallMount and SmartThings
Great TV, easy assembly, great image and sound, supports Netflix, Apple TV+ and Spotify like a charm (I haven't tried Amazon Prime). The down sides: the TV mount requires special screws (not included), AirPlay isn't compatible for playing videos from a MacBook Pro 2019 running Catalina or an iPad 6th Gen running iOS 13.1.4 (and one of the reason I was buying this TV was to replace an old Apple TV device; bummer!), the the SmartThings app sees it but can't connect to it (it connects to it, asks to enter a PIN displayed on the screen, but no PIN is ever displayed on the screen, and no keyboard is never displayed in the app. iPhone 8 w/ 13.1.5, and iPad 6th w/ 13.1.4).Great buy, but AirPlay not working for streaming videos that worked fine with my Apple TV is a big deception (and yes I played w ith the settings of the TV, you can change the protocol version, but for me, to no avail). As for the mounting screws, I ordered them for like 8.99$CA, it will fit my actual VESA mount, so it's just a little inconvenience. - Reviewed by Jérémie Parent (Reviewed in Canada on April 20, 2020)

Masterpiece Samsung Display, TizenOS sluggish but fixable/forvigable because of the gorgeous screen
Review for Samsung 50" Q60T 4K Ultra HD HDR Smart QLED TV (QN50Q6 0TAFXZC) [Canada Version]This review is from the perspective of one who has never owned a 4K TV for entertainment -- I do own a 4K 40" monitor for my office use (photography, videography, and programming). I also own two "smart" tv's aging from a 2015 early smart tv model to as recent as 2019 model TV.Having said that, I actually do 4K content quite regularly. I record lots of 4K footage (competitive cheerleading competitions, hockey tournaments and other family content). I use Vegas Pro and post process them myself and upload to youtube. I own a 4K 40" monitor at home. Therefore i'm not foreign to 4K media.I never really thought it was worth owning a 4K TV because of the lack of mainstream content. I think things have changed and it's finally a good time to think of buying a 4K tv, now that amazonprimevideo and netflix and even regular cable content providers are offering 4K feeds that are less compressed (ex: bell fibe seems better than rogers 4k feeds). Fortunate for me, im able to get my hands on this one to review. Physical aspects:This tv set is not heavy. Easily liftable by one adult, even to the point of being able to mount it on a wall by yourself. My older 40" LCD TV (Sharp model) is around same weight. You can easily mount this on the wall with a good quality TV wall mount. There are standard VESA mounts behind the TV so if youre replacing an existing wallmounted tv, youre ok there to replace it. Take note these take really deep screws behind the TV so you may need to find your old mounting box of screws and find the longest ones. I had to dig up my old mounting unit box to find alternate screws and find the deepest ones possible. Behind the TV, myriad of connectors you can read the specs. But a couple nice ones are, ethernet port (to use rather than wifi thats also available). Nice to get fast lag free streaming with wired connection. I also appreciate TWO usb por ts to connect your fireTV or chromecast without the need to wire a plug. I wish both were 1A. Chromecast and Firetv require 1A from usb port. This tv only has one 1A and one 500mA (nice for media usb sticks content). This isnt too much a problem because now that Firetv sticks do chromecast, theres no need to have both firetv and chromecast plugged into a TV. One last interesting "connector" for audio to note is bluetooth. You can connect the tv to a BT speaker. I find that interesting because i've never owned a TV with this capability. I'm not sure how latency is going to work with this setup because BT typically has noticeable latency. The remote controller is very similar to Amazon's firetv. highly minimalist controller. Dedicated buttons for netflix/primevideo/samsungtv is handy but i wish they were more programmable. For example, i dont really use samsungTV content. I'd prefer that to goto my NAS content provider. A huge omis sion i find with this TV controller is the fact that i cannot program a few basic buttons, at the LEAST, the volume flippers. Yes it does have "universal remote" function that tries to learn your connected devices via HDMI but the selection is limited (possible that it can be updated with samsungs software update over network). This feature is great if you have modern equipment. My current setup i am just connecting to a TEAC amp for ceiling speakers. Not detected and therefore it wouldve been nice to have the ability to manually program the buttons for volume control on external amp. Currently i've not figured out a way to do this. My FireTV remote can even do this. So now, i need to use two remotes, OR just buy yet another universal remote.... Built-in speakers are fairly powerful actually. But most audio-lovers will opt to use external speakers for their viewing. If you just want a minimal setup for your space, the speakers are as any built-in TV speaker performs: mediocre but good for just general viewing. Display:Absolutely AMAZING. BREATH TAKING 4K. The near bezel-less design is really gorgeous. It is just stunning against the wall and makes your older TV's look out of date instantly. The screen is simply stunning. Extremely VIVID colour and high contrast gives a visceral experience. If you prefer a much more muted contrast/colour scheme, such as using the TV dedicated MOVIE viewing, then you can easily change the profile to support this. I used a datacolor spyder colour calibration and i found the default movie mode profile not great but for most purposes, its good enough. If you want colour accuracy you obviously dont use "vivid" mode but you 'd want to manually control the colours. Most people to be honest, dont care. The HD content is ultra tack sharp. I mean SHARP. Words absolutely cannot describe how clear and crisp HD content looks even comparing with my other HD T V's. Then, you find some 4K youtube content and you will be insanely blown away. Youtube based 4K content is simply stunning -- ironically there are 4K LG demo videos that completely smash your expectations. I do not have a netflix 4K account yet but bell fibe 4K cable tv content is just as impressive (especially sports) although i admit it not as stunning as youtube content due to compression artifacts. I'm impressed that i can even tell the difference between my newer 2019 TV (LG) vs this Samsung Q60T for HD content but then you see some 4K feeds and your mind is blown. Brightness exceeds expectations and completely obliterates all of my existing TV's. I mounted this one in my kitchen/common area where there is extreme amount of light due to all the windows. The TV automatically adjusts well with the changing light environment (of course this can be disabled). There is a very impressive mode "ambient" that makes your screen look like a pic ture frame. The screen brightness and contrast becomes dim and flat to appear like a picture frame. Nice but i find it to be a bit of a gimmick. I don't really use it because its really slow to goto ambient mode -- and it doesnt save which image you last used so you cant just press the ambient button and leave.... you have to go and find the picture again. I dont have the patience for that.Software:This TV uses Samsung's purchased tizen OS. I've had no lock ups or strange glitches navigating around the menuing system. I found samsungs interface quite clean and well thought out. The ability to order items around however you like, is welcomed. So you can put your most frequent stuff up front and even hide ones that are used rarely to de-clutter your "app" grid. A single row on the bottom of the display shows your "apps" and you can expand (similar to a phone), to get a matrix of all your installed apps. Very simple and requires NO manual. In fact there are NO paper manuals . The paper manual is merely safety and basic mounting instructions. There is an online manual available to search onscreen and learn something about the OS. The software selection on the tizen platform covers the basics for a modern smart TV. netflix, prime, disney and even has built-in network NAS file client which can detect your modern networked NAS providers and access them. It had zero trouble finding my buffalo nas. Its nice to see the netflix and prime app are as smooth and featured as my regular smart phone app. The app store isnt obviously as endowed as google play store or apply store. It's a TV. But i'm happy to find Tune-in radio app there(which i like to use to listen to local radio streams in the morning). I mentioned there are no real glitches in the software. But its partially a lie. The only major issue i see with this smart tv OS is that its hardware chipset it is runnin g on, is underpowered. I find that if you are like me and want ultra snappy response, most of the time its good. But there are times when something is bogged down so your input is buffered and then suddenly reacts and by that time, i've already tried reacting by exiting or pressing random buttons..... thereby activating something i didnt intend to activate. This doesnt happen that often but enough get you a tad annoyed. Keyboard input is onscreen a bit annoying -- after 8 chars of input, it goes into this "auto accept" mode where the next keystrokE will CONFIRM the input but youre not even done typing the passphrase or search word. To avoid this, you need to move around to different letters to avoid the auto-confirm input. I'm not sure why Samsung did this. It's VERY annoying. There is some workarounds here--- > you can use microphone to input some areas. You press the remote's "MIC" button and hold, then speak your input. It works OK in some apps.As i mentioned earlier, you can use voice control to speak into the remote and activate / change inputs / or enter text rather than keyboard etc. I dont really love it. You can select between samsung Bixby or Amazon Alexa assistants. Neither are my first choice of assistants because i use google assistant everywhere in my home. This does not support google home assistant. That's unfortunately. Of the two, however, Alexa is "smarter". I never found bixby useful even on my Note10+ phone.---------I'm fairly certain i will be updating this review as i discover new things good or bad. But since the main point of a TV is the display monitor, All the shortcomings of the tv i mentioned is forgivable for the most part because the screen is just a masterpiece.. Samsung has an absolute monopoly in screen technology and it is quite evident. - Reviewed by michel tardif (Reviewed in Canada on June 9, 2020)
